Ninety percent of the world’s saffron comes from Iran. This weedy plant refers to the Iridaceae family and its scientific name is “Crocus Sativus.”

Saffron is a stemless plant and its root is bulbous and spherical. It has a neat, regular shape with a long, narrow bar that converts into three bicolored petals. It is the most expensive and sought-after spice in the world. Its value has been kept consistently high with labor-intensive cultivation methods that require harvesting its delicate red filaments by hand: about 250,000 flowers are needed for 1 kg of saffron. We directly follow, with our on-site staff, the entire production cycle (land preparation, harvesting and post-harvest procedures) in order to obtain the best saffron harvests for our customers worldwide. Saffron is a spice rich in antioxidants. It has been linked to multiple health benefits, such as improved mood, libido, as well as reduced PMS symptoms and weight loss. Above all, it is generally safe for most people and is easy to add to the diet.
